Goat Cheese & Strawberry Tartine

Per Tricia~

This was utterly lovely. Yum.
We all were raving about the results and those who watched me create the tartine(s) commented that the Balsamic Vinegar and pepper were much less obvious than they expected. Those who walked into the kitchen afterward had to look hard at the tartines to guess what was included in them :) We all just loved this unusual combo.

My bread was from the LeBus bakery in Philly and I chose a plain baguette as well as a multigrain baguette. Surprisingly, we all preferred the plain baguette better - with my husband suggesting the other flavor actually distracted him a bit from the toppings. Keep in mind both options were still fabulous, we just preferred the plain.

For the sake of taste testing, I made an extra few with whipped Philadelphia cream cheese too - since we almost always have this in the fridge. It was darn nice. Not as wonderful as that Vermont Goat Cheese Nana scored for us, but great in a pinch.
This was a fun adventure that offers a great appetizer and wonderful "go to" for a simple lunch - I can't wait to have some more........

Per Nana~
This was an absolutely wonderful tartine ! I have never had balsamic vinegar with strawberries before but they are perfect together.
It's amazing the things we learn from these recipes- I had never even heard of
"creamy" goat cheese before, but I found some from the Vermont Butter
& Cheese Creamery that they sold in Wegman's grocery store.
Since these should be eaten as soon as possible, I only made 8 slices between the two of us. The strawberries were huge, so I had to cut them into about 8  pieces each. All in all, it makes a beautiful little appetizer.  I love the ease of these recipes that we have made so far this month.

  2. Beautiful! I particularly loved the effect of the pepper on these bringing in a tail of heat. I just adore pepper and fruit together.

  3. I love Vermont Creamery's products. They are pretty readily available around here - they make a very nice creme fraiche (a little harder to get ahold of) as well.
This was a winner of a "recipe" and one I could nibble on all day long.

  6. Tricia - I was thinking cream cheese would be nice with this, too. Glad to hear it works. The bread you got is beautiful, too.

Nana - that goat cheese looks delicious.

This was such a great idea, I'm pretty sure we're going to be having variations of it all summer long.

Lovely mouth watering presentations, I remember how good these tartines were from just a few days ago! Interesting how the plain bread was preferred ..the multigrain baguette looks delicious ;-) This unusual pairing of goat cheese and strawberry was a winner for us too .. destined to be made again this Summer-maybe with a mix of berries(?) Enjoy your week ;-)

  13. Your pictures are wonderful this week. Tricia, love that plate. I am sure you've used it before but I obviously haven't noticed it. It's perfect for those little tartines. I am guessing that you topped the goat cheese with the balsamic and then placed the strawberries to top. And, Nana, those were BIG strawberries. We are starting to get wonderful fruit around here and suspect you are also. I can think of all kinds of ways to go with this recipe. Don't you think everyone has enjoyed the simplier recipes the past 6 weeks? This seems to be a busy time of year for everyone. Nana, I think you and Kathy and I are holding up the 65-and-over stats for this group. Determined to hang in, right?

  16. That's my favorite goat cheese. Glad that this wonderful combination was a winner across the board at both your houses. I had strawberries drizzled with balsamic for dessert at a restaurant once and fell in love with the flavors.
