This was an incredible dessert bar and so easy to assemble.
Definitely a little dessert that can be put together quickly, having
most of the ingredients on hand. As Dorie mentions, when the
chocolate is spread on the base, your toppings can be varied.
When I was cutting them into squares the aroma of the
chocolate was so strong, I could not resist tasting a piece.
Absolutely scrumptious.
Definitely a repeat recipe to be experimented with. These
would be a great addition to any cookie recipe collection.

Yum.
Crazy yum.
I can not stop raving about this book- Baking Chez Moi- because every
recipe (granted, all desserts.....) has been a distinct winner. And even
among that competition, this recipe may have taken the lead.

Rice Krispy treats are almost an embarrassing love of mine.
Not many people are impressed if you list them as your favorite food but
the truth is, I just love the treat. I did not expect to get any tips
involving Rice Krispys from Dorie's book not only provided the bar
recipe but tips in the back about prepping the cereal with sugar on the stove.
Genius. Pure sugar genius.
I used bittersweet morsels typically for making chocolate chips.
This dessert bar is basically like a chocolate chip cookie separated in bar
form - plain cookie, then chocolate coating, then sugar coated Rice Krispy on top.
Heaven.
Winner, keeper, two thumbs up.
Yum. I planned to make these, but wound up having a stand-off with Charlie at the supermarket and leaving without the rice krispies. I was trying to explain to him that we would buy the generic ones because they cost $1.75 cheaper than Rice Krispies. He started having a fit that we had to buy the one with "the three little men" on them. I told him he could have the generic ones or nothing. We left with nothing. That's what I get for trying to seize a learning moment. Ha. Next supermarket trip...
ReplyDeleteI agree. Caramelizing rice crispies takes them to a whole new level! Yum!
ReplyDeleteI haven't made these yet, but I can't wait! Both of yours look so scrumptious.
ReplyDeleteThese look great. I've been wanting to try these since I got my copy of the book. Sugar coated rice Krispies sound wonderful. (Tricia, I'm a big fan of rice krispie treats too. I always make a batch after summer when the marshmallows I bought for summer s'mores that never got made are getting stale.)
ReplyDeleteNana, absolutely scrumptious is a good description. This went over well in our house. Tricia, don't be embarrassed about your love of Rice Krispies treats they never go out of style:)
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of Rice Krispie Treats, too!!! And these were pretty terrific, too! Glad these were a hit with you both :)

ReplyDeleteScrumptious is right! And I agree that the caramelized cereal is pure genius.
ReplyDeleteWe loved these at my house too. Rice Krispie treats are the one dessert my husband can make so I have a particular fondness for them. It was nice to have a 'grown-up' version to try.
ReplyDeleteBoth your batches look great! Now I want some more! :)
ReplyDeleteI have always been a fan of Rice Krispies, and when my kids were little Rice Krispies treats were a regular in our house! I loved them as much as the kids did! You ladies did a fabulous job on these bars…definetly a 2 thumbs up!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, ladies! These were a fun recipe, and the the caramelized cereal puts them over the top. So good on its own too.
